Changes to the team defeated by Udinese on Thursday will be more minimal than the alterations to most sides fielded in the Europa League this term.

Though changes to the XI which started against Norwich City are unlikely.

Martin Kelly and Lucas Leiva are out through long term injuries . Joe Cole and Jose Enrique remain doubts.

Jonjo Shelvey is absent due to the red card he received against Manchester United. Though this is the third and final game of his suspension.

Stoke also have a man out for disciplinary reasons – Andy Wilkinson also serves the concluding game of a three match ban. However, Tony Pulis otherwise has a full squad to select from.

The ex-Liverpool quartet of Michael Owen, Charlie Adam, Jermaine Pennant and Peter Crouch are all seeking to participate in some capacity.

Liverpool have lost their last two games in the league at Anfield. Three successive league defeats have not been suffered on home soil since September 1963 and the Reds will hope that fate can be avoided.

Stoke do not have an Anfield win in either Division One or the Premier League under their belts. The Potters have lost 39 and drawn 10 of their 49 visits to Anfield as a top-flight team.
